You are watching: Jeep tj fan speed not working

Recently the pan on mine 2001 TJ stopped. The does not job-related on any speed or on warm or A/C. I pulled the blower motor and also straight wired it come the battery. That worked. I likewise pulled the rate selector switch. I ohm the switch. It appeared to be ok. I also jumped the connector... Nothing. I had actually 13 volts top top the rate selector connector. I confirm the resister. It appeared and also ohm good. The seems like it should just be a fuse, but all ns can find are good. I"m began to obtain anoyed. I really love my TJ, yet this humid Tennessee spring has me thinking about a Prius! Help!

I had actually the same difficulty here is what i did. I replaced the resistor, didn"t work. I replaced the selector switch worked. For giggles I placed the old resistor ago in, didn"t work....scratch head...put brand-new resistor back in, worked. So change both the resistor and selector switch. I have actually a brand-new blower that ns bought but don"t need if you require it.

When simply one fan speed doesn"t work, that is commonly caused through the resistor pack. When no pan speeds work, that is most likely the fan speed switch or a fried wiring harness as happens on enlarge TJs.

I replaced the engine resistor and also the trouble persists. Ns then changed the move on the dash (see pic), and also all 4 setting works.I placed the old resistor back in, and also all 4 still work.Ended being a $25 part from the dealership. Not bad.

Fan speeds. Only highest speed works.Glad I discovered a thread that is regarded my problem.I have actually a 97 TJ and also just got earlier inside ~ trying to deal with the blower fan problem, so came directly on the forum trying to find an answer. My fan is the 4 speed knob and also climate manage is the old slider form bars.My very first 3 speeds don"t carry out anything and the 4th one is complete blast.I just replaced the 4 rate switch and also have the same problem.:banghead:I"m reading around a resistor (or resistor pack?). Wherein is this located? Would choose to try an altering that next.

The "97 TJ"s resistor pack is up over the passenger-side footwell, screwed come the HVAC plenum through two screws. Remove the kick plate come gain accessibility to the area. Ns wouldn"t it is in surprised if you find some melted wiring bring about the resistor pack, that"s a common issue with beforehand TJs. If that"s what friend find, you"ll have to splice in brand-new wiring and install a new resistor pack. It taken place to mine "97.
Had the same worry on my (new to me!) 04.

Replaced the resistor ($20 off eBay) and also now allnfour settings work like new!
OK. Got out there this morning before the temp hits 100+ today (we may break part records) and also checked every the fuses (good) and also the wiring for any type of melting (none). Then eliminated the resistor. Seems there is simply the slightest little of rust and also just one iddy-bit of foreign matter on/in it.I"m reasoning - maybe
- this can be the problem.:rofl:I"ve had some pics to show you that I"m being sarcastic. Ns was quite shocked when I observed it. Ns bought the Jeep last year and am just noww obtaining to all the little things ~ above it that don"t work, or don"t work-related correctly. I"m pretty fine finished through the major issues. My question is currently this...I"m unfamiliar with components manufacturers and found 2 being readily available on feeBay. One is SMP and also the other is Dorman/Techoice. SMP is half the price of Dorman. Any type of real distinction to a part like this? Or is one manufacturer head and shoulders above the other? I choose to conserve money, yet not if it means buying a part that is useless in a month.By the way, many thanks for the previous help in locating the difficulty with the blower speeds.
