Hi! I"m replacing the serpentine belt on my "97 Ranger (4 cyclinder) and I can"t figure out what tool to use to move the belt tensioner so I can slip on the new belt. Thanks in advance for your help/advice.Fred C

A wrench on the pulley bolt usually works. But if you look at the tensioner you"ll see a hole that accepts a square drive on a ratchet.

the spring is tight in the tensioner and is tough to keep it pushed back enough to get the belt positoned if you are by yourself.. so i just used a pipe over the end of the ratchet handle for leverage.
I prefer the proper tensionor tool that you can rent for free at most auto parts stores. The tool is slim enough that it will give your enough room to use it and not hit anything.

put a wrench on top of it and you should be able to loosen it. There is a sticker on the rad support that says how to use it. Its pretty stright forward.
wow. lol. it"s really not that hard and you don"t need a special tool. if you"re stronger than a 12 year old girl you should be able to take the tension off with 1 hand on the ratchet and remove the belt with the other :)
